2021 Volkswagen Atlas

2021 Volkswagen Atlas - Front View Profile

The Volkswagen Atlas made its first successful appearance on the auto stage in 2018 and was VW’s first attempt at a three-row midsize-crossover SUV, which was designed for the American public to serve as a family hauler. Favored for its roomy interior and comfortable ride, the Atlas is one of two models, along with the Passat, assembled in the United States at an official VW manufacturing facility in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Trims and Features

The VW Atlas comes in an astonishing variety of eight trims. The base Atlas S trim comes with a four-cylinder engine, cloth seats, 18-inch alloy wheels, cruise control, and a good safety suite highlighted by automatic emergency braking. This is followed by the SE, SE with Technology, and SE with Technology R-Line models, which add leatherette and driver assistance features.

The next trim, the SEL, showcases 20-inch alloy wheels and a panoramic sunroof, as well as the sharp-looking Volkswagen Digital Cockpit. For its part, the SEL R-Line model has 21-inch alloy wheels and a unique R-Line body design. The SEL Premium comes with sport seats made with perforated leather, together with a heated second row, and a 360-degree overhead camera view. Finalizing the series is the SEL Premium R-Line, which boasts 21-inch alloy wheels and one-of-a-kind bumpers and trim.

Inside, you will find a spacious cabin and a modern design, which combine to give the Atlas a comfortable environment. Depending on how you configure the seats, the VW Atlas interior can accommodate six to seven people. The cargo capacity can expand from 20.6 cubic feet all the way to 96.8 when both rows of rear seats are folded flat.

2021 Volkswagen Atlas - Sunroof

The Volkswagen Atlas comes with LED headlights and taillights; newly sculpted bumpers and a three-bar grille give this SUV character. Paint choices come in a variety of metallic or solid colors. The Volkswagen Atlas has been restyled front and rear for 2021, a process that has added three inches to the length of the vehicle but hasn’t dramatically changed its good looks.

Engine, Performance, and Towing

The Atlas is powered by either a four-cylinder (235 horsepower) or a six-cylinder (276 horsepower) engine. The SUV can be customized with a V6 Towing Package, which is available on the SE with Technology and the SE with Technology R-Line. When equipped for towing, the VW Atlas can haul a 5,000-pound trailer.

The 2021 Atlas comes with many technological features that make your driving experience convenient and enjoyable. For example, wireless connectivity gives you the opportunity to charge compatible devices without the use of cables. With the exception of the base S model, all other versions of the Atlas feature an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, whose sleek glass helps make the navigation stand out.

Available on the Atlas SEL and above, a high-resolution digital cockpit displays customizable information such as speed, approximate travel time, route guidance, various assistance systems, and even elevation. The display is conveniently controlled from the steering wheel.

Also available is a 480-watt premium audio system by Fender that delivers quality sound. Additional third-row speakers enhance the sound throughout the whole car.

Driver Assistance

Volkswagen also employs the use of technological advances for your safety. The Atlas comes with many driver assistance features to keep you and your passengers safe and sound while on the road. Included in the Atlas SEL and models above is the Lane Keeping System, or Lane Assist. If you start to drift into another lane without using the turn signal, Lane Assist will keep your SUV in your current lane, as long as lane markings on the road can be detected.

Also available on the SEL and above is the Dynamic Road Sign Display, which uses a forward-facing camera that is able to read traffic signs, speed limits, warning signs, and passing restrictions, with the information being conveyed on the instrument panel. Light Assist controls your high beams at speeds above 37 mph by turning them on to provide visibility on dark roads. Park Distance Control with Maneuver Braking helps you avoid unnecessary collisions while parking in tight spots.

2021 Volkswagen Atlas - Dashboard

With your security in mind, Volkswagen has equipped the Atlas with features to help you prevent the unforeseeable. A wide lens helps you see through the rearview camera for cars, pedestrians, and any other obstacles for when you back up your vehicle. A meticulously engineered safety cage helps distribute forces away from the car’s occupants in the event of a crash. The frame also has special zones in the front and rear that help absorb the energy resulting from a collision.

2021 Volkswagen Atlas - Safety Features

In the event of a crash, the Atlas’s safety systems will activate a series of actions: airbags will be deployed, the fuel pump will be turned off, the doors will be unlocked, and the hazard lights will be activated. The Automatic Post-Collision Braking System can also help slow the vehicle down after a crash, reducing the probability of additional collisions. This feature is certainly needed for a family-oriented vehicle like the Atlas.
