Comparing Performance

Let’s first look at the performance of each vehicle. Both SUVs come with an intercooled turbo regular unleaded engine; however, the Taos comes with a 1.5-liter engine while the Tiguan comes with a 2.0-liter engine. This may not sound like a big change, but it definitely impacts the performance of each vehicle. For example, the Taos gets around 158 horsepower while the Tiguan gets 184 horsepower. Both SUVs also come with 8-speed automatic transmission. On the other hand, the Taos is rated at a combined 31 miles per gallon, while the Tiguan is a little lower at a combined 25 MPG. Finally, with both vehicles, you have the option of getting either FWD or 4motion.

Interior Dimensions

Moving inside, both SUVs offer a comfortable and spacious ride. However, you’ll likely find that the Taos offers a little more space for passengers while the Tiguan has more cargo space. You’ll therefore need to decide where you would prefer to have the extra space. That being said, both of these SUVs have more than enough space for both passengers and cargo, so you can’t really go wrong either way.

Entertainment and Convenience Features

Some of the features that come standard with the Tiguan and not the Taos include intermittent wipers and cruise control. However, much of the feature options available depend on the trim level you select for each vehicle. Generally speaking, though, if you want an SUV with the more advanced features available, you’ll probably prefer the Taos.

While safety features can vary based on the model and trim, generally speaking, both the Taos and the Tiguan have excellent safety features and ratings. With both vehicles, you have the option of getting some great safety features, which can help to keep you and your passengers safe wherever you go.

Available Trims

The 2022 Volkswagen Taos and the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan have different trim levels available, allowing you more control over how much you spend versus the number of features you get. For example, in the Volkswagen Taos, there are three trim levels available: the S, SE, and SEL. With each of these trims, you have the option of getting either FWD or 4motion.

The same goes for the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan trim options: the available trims include the S, SE, and SEL. However, the SE also comes with an R-Line Black edition, while the SEL comes with a Premium R-Line addition.

For both vehicles, the higher trim you select, the more features you’ll get. However, the more premium trims also cost more. In addition, just because a feature is available in one trim for a certain model doesn’t mean it’s available in the matching trim for the other model.
