What’s New for the 2027 Volkswagen Lineup

The 2027 lineup marks one of Volkswagen’s most coordinated model-year pushes in recent memory. VW is refreshing multiple pillars of its portfolio at once. The Atlas gets a full second-generation redesign. The ID. Buzz returns with new trims and updated software. The Jetta receives a technology overhaul that brings its cabin experience into sharper focus.

Arrival Timeline

Select 2027 models begin arriving in August 2026. The redesigned Atlas lands first, in fall 2026, with the Atlas Cross Sport following later in the 2027 model year. ID. Buzz and Jetta configurations round out the rollout as the model year progresses.

Themes Behind the Refresh: EVs, Tech, and Safety

A few themes run through every 2027 VW update. Electrification continues to expand with the ID. Buzz lineup growing into new configurations. Connected services get simpler, with Volkswagen bundling its premium features into a single In-Vehicle Premium subscription that can include Premium Speech with ChatGPT, Premium Radio with more than 30,000 stations and over a million podcasts, myQ Connected Garage for remote garage access, AirConsole gaming through the infotainment screen, and What3Words navigation.

Safety takes the biggest concrete step. Volkswagen has significantly enhanced two driver assist systems across the Atlas, ID. Buzz, Golf family, and Tiguan. Travel Assist now handles assisted lane changes with an on-hold wait-for-clear function, along with improved lane centering and enhanced predictive Adaptive Cruise Control. Emergency Assist can now automatically move the vehicle to the right shoulder and bring it to a halt if it detects no driver interaction, as in a medical emergency.

2027 Volkswagen Atlas: A Second-Generation Redesign

The Atlas has long been one of Volkswagen’s most practical three-row SUVs. The 2027 version goes further, landing as a full second-generation redesign instead of a mid-cycle refresh. The changes span exterior styling, interior materials, powertrain, and safety, giving the Atlas a genuine claim to being the most complete version of itself yet.

New Exterior Styling and Upscale Cabin

Volkswagen has given the redesigned Atlas all-new sheet metal with redesigned front and rear lighting for a more premium look, and the cabin has been completely reimagined. Soft-touch surfaces are standard, with available real-wood decor and ambient lighting throughout.

The standard equipment list is where families will feel the difference. New for 2027: a power liftgate, rear sunshades, an auto-dimming driver-side mirror, dual hatch lights, and front and rear Park Distance Control, all standard. On infotainment, reporting from the vehicle’s reveal indicates a 12.9-inch touchscreen on the base trim with a 15-inch display on trims above it, though Volkswagen will confirm final trim-by-trim specifications closer to launch.

282-HP EA888 Turbo Engine and Performance

Under the hood, the 2027 Atlas runs the latest evo5 version of Volkswagen’s EA888 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder, now producing 282 horsepower, the most ever for an Atlas and 13 more than the outgoing engine. It pairs with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Front-wheel drive is standard, with AWD available for buyers who need it. FWD models are anticipated to see improved fuel economy over the outgoing model, with final EPA figures to be announced closer to launch, and the Atlas can tow up to 5,000 lbs with the optional trailer hitch. For Southern Illinois drivers who deal with varied terrain and weather, having that AWD option on the table matters.

Added Safety Features

Volkswagen has added a front center airbag to the 2027 Atlas, bringing the total to seven standard airbags. IQ.DRIVE also comes standard, including automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, lane centering assist, and adaptive cruise control. A hands-on active driving assist feature can perform driver-initiated lane changes and guide the vehicle to the roadside in an emergency. Front and rear Park Distance Control is now standard as well.

If the redesigned Atlas has your attention, you can reserve your spot on an incoming 2027 model now rather than waiting until it arrives on our lot.

2027 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport Arrives Later in the Year

The Atlas Cross Sport follows its full-size sibling with a later arrival in the 2027 model year. It carries the same styling direction, interior upgrades, and safety technology as the redesigned Atlas while keeping its signature two-row, sportier profile. That makes it an appealing option for buyers who want the Atlas experience without the third row.

ID. Buzz Lineup Returns with New Software

The ID. Buzz continues to be one of the most talked-about vehicles in Volkswagen’s modern lineup, and the 2027 version expands into new trims while rolling out updated software. For anyone curious about Volkswagen’s electric direction, this is the clearest expression of it.

Pro S RWD and Pro S 4Motion

The ID. Buzz returns with both Pro S RWD and Pro S 4Motion trims, covering single-motor efficiency on one end and dual-motor all-weather performance on the other. The 4Motion variant makes the ID. Buzz a more viable year-round vehicle for drivers in climates where traction matters.

Tourer 4Motion and Pro S Plus 4Motion

The Tourer 4Motion is built off the European Good Night Package and aimed squarely at overnight trips. It adds a fold-out mattress with platform, window blinds, front window ventilation panels, an exterior table and chairs, and Overnight Mode software that adapts interior and exterior functions so the vehicle can actually be slept in. Built on the Pro S 4Motion, the Tourer also brings a retractable tow hitch, Captain’s Chairs, an electrochromic smart roof, Area View, and 20-inch dark graphite wheels with black discs. It speaks directly to buyers who want an EV that can handle more than commuting.

The Pro S Plus 4Motion tops the lineup and now offers an optional 21-inch wheel package.

New ID.S 6 Software Experience

Every 2027 ID. Buzz runs on Volkswagen’s new ID.S 6 Android-based infotainment platform, which brings a refreshed navigation home screen for quicker inputs and a new vehicle settings page for more intuitive access to interior features. Every ID. Buzz also comes with a one-year trial of In-Vehicle Premium, which introduces a new App Store with in-vehicle access to third-party apps including YouTube and Spotify.

Two hardware items matter just as much for EV shoppers: the 2027 ID. Buzz includes a North American Charging System adapter and one-pedal driving functionality. Volkswagen has also simplified the color offer to two-tone schemes only, including a new Candy White over Cherry Red combination with white wheels that nods straight back to the Type 2 Microbus.

2027 Volkswagen Jetta and Jetta GLI

The Jetta may not carry the headlines that the Atlas redesign or ID. Buzz expansion generate, but its 2027 updates are worth noting, particularly around technology and convenience.

Jetta S, Sport, SE, and SEL Trims

The Jetta continues in S, Sport, SE, and SEL trims, with the 2027 updates concentrated at the entry end. The S and Sport trims now include Volkswagen’s Composition Media infotainment system, which adds satellite radio, voice control, and two additional speakers for a total of six, plus available Premium Speech with AI and Premium Radio.

Both trims also add KESSY keyless access with push-button start. Every Jetta gets an enhanced rear seatbelt reminder. The Jetta has long offered strong value for compact sedan shoppers, and these updates reinforce that position where it counts most, at the entry level.

Jetta GLI Autobahn Trim

The Jetta GLI continues as the enthusiast choice in the compact segment, and the Autobahn trim is its performance-focused range-topper. For drivers who want a compact sedan with real personality and capability, the GLI Autobahn trim delivers that combination.

Volkswagen’s Broader Direction for 2027 and Beyond

Looking at the 2027 lineup as a whole, Volkswagen is pursuing electric expansion through the ID. Buzz while continuing to refine its turbocharged combustion lineup, as seen in the Atlas. Premium tech and safety upgrades are showing up across traditional models too, with a wider rollout of features like Travel Assist and Emergency Assist.

Further out, Volkswagen is expected to introduce a hybrid Atlas around the vehicle’s next midcycle refresh, though that’s still a future plan and not a confirmed near-term addition. Together, these moves show a brand building toward both electric and combustion buyers at the same time.
